Mud Top presents a new series of tables called Table Horse. The title refers to a ‘play on words’ explored as motifs in mosaic compositions atop fabricated steel tables. Primarily represented as distortions, the subjects of these compositions survey the charm of westerns films, cowboys or even rodeo culture. This exhibition displays the concept that furniture can be pictorial, playful and function in any type of space: a raging party, a restaurant or a quiet courtyard.
Table Horse continue the exploration of the juncture between Ben Jones’ painting style, which is interested with generations of community and their artefacts, and the industrial processes and material of Basil Papoutsidis’ sculptural practice.

Mud Top
Mud Top is a joint venture between Ben Jones and Basil Papoutsidis featuring mosaic table-topped steel objects. The result of an ambitious project initiated by the pair between 2020-2022 during the thick of Melbourne’s lockdowns, Mud Top is the first collaboration between their respective sculpture and painting practices. The outcome of this collaboration are fabricated, playful objects that continue the collective conversation and exploration into industrial process.
