Post Industrial Bliss is a presentation of new work from Ben McCarthy and Marcel Sigel. The collaboration explores new ideas in furniture and lighting, featuring bold and graphic forms with handmade undertones and industrial detailing.

The exhibition showcases a range of work, spanning from finalised creations to early-stage prototypes, providing a comprehensive view of the design development process. The core of the exhibition is about conversation, an eclectic presentation of new ideas in varying materials, finishes, scales and typologies. It offers an insight into product evolution, a snapshot of the designers aesthetics, an examination of material process, and, as two Australian designers who have spent the bulk of their careers working overseas, a reflection on Australian design.

Participants

Marcel Sigel

Marcel studied industrial design in Perth before moving to Melbourne in 2004 to set up the multidisciplinary ‘zuii’ design studio. The studio quickly gained recognition, winning various local and international commissions across furniture, lighting, and objects. Following this success he received numerous awards including Wallpaper‘s ‘Best Young Designer’. In 2007 he moved to London where he worked with both Artek Design Studio, and until 2011 was Senior Designer at Tom Dixon. Marcel Sigel Studio was established in 2012 from a desire for personal expression in his work and is founded on the notion that design should be impassioned, provoking the emotions, feelings and behaviour of those who come into contact with it. Since 2022 the studio is based in Melbourne working with leading international clients across product, furniture, lighting and space.

Ben McCarthy

Born and raised in Sydney, Ben has worked in renowned studios in London and Hong Kong, having recently moved back to Australia to open his own design studio. Ben McCarthy studio is currently located in Sydney, working with local and international clients.
