The One-Stop Bug-Shop is an innovative vending machine offering a variety of insect-based snacks, such as cricket corn chips and candied mealworms.Located in the National Gallery of Victoria’s Federation Court, this unique vending machine functions as a research centre, showcasing snacks with insects as the main ingredient in different forms. With insects presented in both sweet and savory options, it challenges the societal norms that accept consuming animals for protein but not insects. The One-Stop Bug-Shop sparks informed discussions about the potential of insects as an alternative food source.

Skye Blackburn, Circle Harvest

Circle Harvest (AKA Edible Bug Shop) was established in 2007 by Skye Blackburn, an entomologist and food scientist with a passion for sustainable foods. After learning about the amazing nutritional composition of insects, Skye founded Australia’s first insect protein farm in Western Sydney, hoping to educate consumers and integrate insect proteins as a sustainable protein source for diversification within our food system. Circle Harvest has been instrumental in helping to grow the insect protein industry in Australia, working along side the Department of Biosecurity and Food Safety to develop the standards that we use for insect based farming and foods in Australia today.
