The showcased projects explore potential architectural applications using 3D printed recycled and biodegradable materials, emphasizing the reduction of waste, notably through innovations like coffee waste concrete.
Organized by RMIT Architecture and RMIT Engineering, this exhibition presents robotically fabricated prototypes that push the boundaries of architectural form, structure, ornamentation, and tectonics through innovative design. This research investigates material lifecycles, waste management, and industrial supply chains, aiming to showcase a disruptive approach to construction and architectural design.
Simultaneously, the event will introduce a new book Intelligent Force Printing edited by Dr. Nic Bao and Prof. Philip Yuan, detailing the collaborative international design studio at RMIT University. It explores their recent design project: a 3D concrete printing pavilion, along with related research articles.
The exhibition will be hosted at the RMIT Design Archives Window Gallery. Despite its compact size, the exhibition will feature multiple prototypes and a video offering an immersive glimpse into the world of 3D concrete printed installations. The works will be visible from both the street and the RMIT Design Hub forecourt.
