Wheelchair accessible35 Life: Tradition, Transformation, Revolution is an exhibition that explores the possibilities of sustainable fashion through visual, tactile, and auditory experiences. It focuses on fashion waste and troubles in daily life, the innovative collision of traditional Chinese culture in the Australian environment, and the future of sustainable clothing.
The exhibition comprises three zones (Past Dilemmas, Tradition and Transformation, and New Dreams and Life) that prompt the questions: What can the past bring to the future? What environmental issues are brought about by fashion? What are fashion troubles in daily life? And how can we make sustainable design more commercially viable?

Canwen Zhao is an artist and fashion designer that not only commands excellence in fashion but also distinguishes herself in graphic and trend-based IP design. Renowned for her outstanding work on 35Life, a creation that garnered multiple global award nominations, Zhao achieved the prestigious 2023 Sustainable Fashion Award, solidifying her impact with a permanent exhibit at the Australian Wool Museum. Driven by a passion for the seamless integration of art, history, culture, and sustainable design, Zhao derives inspiration from ancient Chinese philosophy.
35Life is a sustainable fashion research project by Canwen Zhao based in Melbourne. Inspired by the Yi Jing hexagram fifty in traditional Chinese culture, “Fire over Wind,” symbolising the concept of “transforming the old into the new,” In this hexagram, fire corresponds to the number three and the color red, wind corresponds to the number five and the color green, while the “ding” represents a traditional Chinese ritual vessel and cooking utensil. It embodies humanity’s hopes and aspirations for a beautiful life.
