ACCESS
Designing with Light: Experiencing the Invisible is an immersive exhibition and educational program. The program explores lighting as a fundamental design element that shapes mood, wellbeing and spatial legibility. The exhibition demonstrates how thoughtful lighting contributes to a more mindful and sustainable built environment. Visitors will move through the Lux FX Experience Room, participating in demonstrations that illustrate the impact of layered ambient, task and accent lighting on everyday activities.
The program highlights the intersection of Australian design and global innovation through three showcases:
South Drawn (Australia): A showcase of locally designed lighting utilising salvaged glass and sustainable micro pulp materials developed by Zeoform.
Villaform (Australia): A brand positioned at the intersection of technical architectural lighting and decorative design, presenting a new product launch.
iGuzzini (Italy): An exploration of circular technology and archival design from the historic lighting manufacturer.
“The objective of this program is to encourage a shift in perspective, viewing light not merely as a functional utility, but as a primary creative tool,” says the Lux FX team. “By experiencing the ‘invisible’ impact of light, visitors can better understand how it nurtures emotion and connection to our surroundings.”
A highlight of the week is a ticketed panel talk taking place on Wednesday 20 May. The discussion features industry experts including Michael Drescher of DKO Architecture, Ben Nicholas of Carr Design, Giuseppe Simone of Antumbra Lighting Design and Roshani de Silva of Grimshaw Architecture. In addition to the panel, the event features a structured program of guided tours exploring lighting design principles, alongside designated public open days for the broader community.
Participants
South Drawn
Founded by brothers Luke and Christian Mills, South Drawn is a Melbourne/Naarm-based lighting design studio guided by a refined design sensibility, a deep commitment to craft and an enduring curiosity about materials and form. The studio designs and manufactures lighting that elevates the spaces it inhabits. At its core is a collaborative environment where designers, engineers and skilled makers work together. South Drawn works closely with local artisans and specialist manufacturers to create lighting solutions designed to endure.
iGuzzini
iGuzzini is committed to social innovation through lighting. iGuzzini collaborates with architects, lighting designers and engineering practices to create innovative and high-performance lighting projects that enhance architecture and spaces. For iGuzzini, light helps create safer, more comfortable and more attractive places. Light shapes the mood of people, colours and shapes of nature and artworks.
Villaform
Villaform is a decorative lighting studio based in Melbourne/Naarm, devoted to the art of sculpting illumination. They bridge the gap between architectural beauty and high-performance technology, creating functional art that evokes a profound emotional connection. Each piece is conceived through a blend of local and international artisan craftsmanship, proudly Australian-made, to elevate the ordinary into a sensory experience.
