Shine a Light is an annual storytelling event hosted by Unios.

Every year, a group of storytellers within the build, design and art disciplines come together to share stories of light while exploring a central theme.

This year, the event explores guest speakers’ experiences of how light contributes to the legacy we leave for the future of Australia.

With broad local and international experience, she has worked across hospitality, urban masterplanning, heritage sites, and luxury hotel brands. Her local work focuses on commercial and education projects, as well as improving perceptions of safety in urban environments after dark. She has a particular interest in how lighting affects human wellbeing, and strives to shape nighttime environments that feel balanced, safe, and welcoming.

With over fourteen years of experience as a designer, Horatio brings strong conceptual lighting design and bespoke lighting skills to the team. Horatio has experience in running large projects across a wide range of sectors including Hotel, F&B and public realm developments. He believes a key role of a lighting designer is to guide collaboration between the Client, Architect, Interior Designer and Building contractor to meet the key lighting design aspirations of the project, and this is essential to a successful outcome. Horatio's background in Industrial Design and Lighting design allows him to bring custom lighting solutions to projects, including considerable experience in custom-designed luminaires and light sculptures.

Laura Turner, COX Architecture
Laura Turner is National Regenerative Design Lead at COX Architecture and a Living Future Accredited Professional on a mission to weave buildings back into the living fabric of Country. As a panel member of the Living Future Institute’s Biophilic Design Initiative and a steering-committee voice for the Melbourne Regenerative Design Forum, she champions design relationships that let people, place, and more-than-human life flourish together. Trained as an architect, Laura pairs craft with curiosity—constantly asking how every project can listen to nature and give something good back.
