This exhibition displays work from designers Ben McCarthy and Marcel Sigel, which further expand the Post Industrial Bliss concept. The presentation features a collection of objects which focus on exploring the industrial aesthetic, examining processes and techniques while reinterpreting them through a craft-oriented perspective. By combining the accuracy of industrial processes with the human touch of craft, each piece aims to strike a balance between sculptural artistry and practical utility.
The exhibition is an independent undertaking by the two designers, showcasing projects which fall between the gaps of commercial industrial design, prototype samples, and collectable editions. It includes explorative ideas, works in progress and form studies that inform the evolving design language of the artists.
Participants
Marcel Sigel
Marcel studied industrial design in Perth before moving to Melbourne in 2004 to set up the multidisciplinary ‘zuii’ design studio. The studio quickly gained recognition, winning various local and international commissions across furniture, lighting, and objects. Following this success he received numerous awards including Wallpaper‘s ‘Best Young Designer’. In 2007 he moved to London where he worked with both Artek Design Studio, and until 2011 was Senior Designer at Tom Dixon. Marcel Sigel Studio was established in 2012 from a desire for personal expression in his work and is founded on the notion that design should be impassioned, provoking the emotions, feelings and behaviour of those who come into contact with it. Since 2022 the studio is based in Melbourne working with leading international clients across product, furniture, lighting and space.
