My Patch, My Silver City is a multigenerational, play workshop and exhibition that aims to shine a light on Victoria’s ageing population by letting children, our future designers, as well as their accompanying adults, consider the needs of this rising demographic.
We pose a simple question: “How would you design a future home for your parent(s) / grandparent(s) / old friend?” Then, through a participatory, free-play model-making process using recycled architectural offcuts, the imaginations of both children and adults take flight. What can we learn from the fresh perspective of our youth?
As the day progresses, individually crafted models are combined to create a future city — one shaped by the visions of our children, with potential influences from their adult guardians. Each model sparks conversations about what life might look like for Victorian elders in the near future.
Additionally, a pin up board will allow visitors to comment, respond to comments, and carry on the conversation around the needs and welfare of our ageing population.
