ACCESS
SKUPA takes its name from the Croatian word for ‘together’ – a principle that has long guided its approach to furniture as a framework for gathering.
This installation extends that idea through a collaboration with Elliat Rich. The works presented here are not designed to stand alone. They depend on adjacency, tension and mutual reliance. They only fully resolve in relation to one another, and in relation to those who use them.
Centred around SKUPA’s solid timber pieces, the installation considers how furniture might encourage authenticity and trust rather than superficial spectacle. Furniture becomes a structure for presence, participation and connection.
An elegant refusal of small talk.
Participants
Elliat Rich
Elliat Rich’s design practice translates between matter and meaning, form and context, imagination and culture. Grounded in the complex socio-bio-historical ecology of Mparntwe (Alice Springs), Central Australia, her work is informed by place, Country and a responsibility to both human and more-than-human worlds.Spanning cross-cultural research, public art, furniture and limited-edition objects, Rich responds to the sentience of the planet through mythology and speculative narrative. Led by curiosity and wonder, her practice expands design’s capacity to foster equity across species and to re-enchant humans with the planet through shared material culture.
