Designer Talk & Showroom Celebration
How can furniture design shape a more sustainable world? Material Futures explores this question through a showcase of innovative, artisan-driven design that puts people and the planet first.
Presented by Project Project, this exhibition highlights forward-thinking designers and makers who merge traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge sustainable practices. Showcasing a diverse collection, the event features Australian-designed products made locally, Australian-American collaborative pieces crafted in Pennsylvania, USA, and iconic Swedish furniture that remains family-made yet has grown into a global sensation.
From ethically sourced materials to enduring design philosophies, each piece tells a story of ingenuity, responsibility, and the future of furniture. Join Project Project to discover how furniture can be more than functional — it can be a force for ecological renewal, cultural expression, and meaningful change. Experience a new vision for design that values longevity over trends, connection over consumption, and sustainability at its core.

Ben McCarty
Born and raised in Sydney, Ben has worked in renowned studios in London and Hong Kong, having recently moved back to Australia to open his own design studio. Ben operates his practice in overlapping fields; as an industrial designer, maker and artist. He has won prestigious design awards for both personal and team projects, exhibited in solo and group shows worldwide, and been involved in multiple patent registrations. Ben McCarthy studio is currently located in Sydney, working with local and international clients.
Marcel Sigel
Marcel studied industrial design in Perth before moving to Melbourne in 2004 to set up the multidisciplinary ‘zuii’ design studio. The studio quickly gained recognition, winning various local and international commissions across furniture, lighting, and objects. Following this success he received numerous awards including Wallpaper magazines Best Young Designer. Marcel Sigel Studio was established in 2012 from a desire for personal expression in his work and is founded on the notion that design should be impassioned, provoking the emotions, feelings and behaviour of those who come into contact with it. Since 2022 the studio is based in Melbourne working with leading international clients across product, furniture, lighting and space.
