Designed by Sophie Hardy, the Maribou collection is presented as a sculptural installation. Recently created and softly launched online in December 2024, this will be the first opportunity for people to experience Maribou in a curated, physical setting.

A New Zealand designer, based in Melbourne for the last 11 years, Sophie is well known as a fashion designer, however this will be her first solo exhibition. Maribou showcases her debut jewellery collection, while incorporating soft textile elements that speak to her background in fashion and lingerie design.

Visitors to Melbourne Design Week will encounter a new vision, a surprising approach to jewellery design. Sophie says “Maribou is a culmination of my love of design, fashion, jewellery, sculpture, and a deep fascination with various bygone ‘vintage’ eras.” Maribou touches on the past, while simultaneously cultivating a modern spirit.

The collection is a counter to the fastness of today’s consumerism. It has embraced recycled materials wherever possible, alongside high quality metals chosen for their longevity, such as 18 karat yellow gold, sterling silver, and hand painted enamel. The intention is to create pieces that people will cherish and treasure for decades to come.
