What happens when some of Australia’s most respected architects turn their attention from buildings to objects?

KEEP brings together six architectural practices to design furniture intended to last within a culture of disposability. Presented with Cult and curated by David Clark, the exhibition explores permanence, Australian craftsmanship and material integrity through a series of new works made from American hardwoods.

Working with red oak, cherry and maple — timbers valued for their beauty, strength and longevity — each architect has created a piece that reveals another facet of their design thinking. The resulting objects range from sculptural seating and tables to lighting and experimental pieces.

The exhibition features works by Kennedy Nolan, Virginia Kerridge, Lineburg Wang, Richards Stanisich, Edition Office and Neil Durbach — six practices whose work contributes to contemporary Australian architecture.

Installed within Cult’s Melbourne/Naarm showroom, KEEP offers an opportunity to slow down, look closely and reconsider the value of the things we choose to keep.
