For the fifth year running, Edwin Fox Furniture offers the opportunity to explore the world of furniture restoration in one of Melbourne’s historic high street locations – 1914 Colosseum Arcade on Chapel Street.

British furniture restorer and artisan Edwin Fox leads an introductory seminar with live demonstrations and discussion, sharing knowledge drawn from his long-standing career in furniture restoration, vintage buying and design. Participants will gain insight into the craft of restoration, sustainable approaches to furniture care and the practical techniques used to repair and maintain vintage furniture.

These sessions are designed to provide participants with essential tools and equip them with the knowledge and confidence to take on furniture restoration projects.

The event welcomes a broad audience, including students, industry professionals, hobbyists and those interested in furniture design. Sessions are tailored for beginners to intermediate participants, from furniture design enthusiasts to architects.

What to expect:

  • Insight into furniture design, history and construction.
  • Introduction to timber restoration methods such as stripping, sanding, and refinishing.
  • The dos and don’ts of various finishes.
  • Basic upholstery techniques including webbing and top cover fabric application.
  • Guidance on aftercare and maintenance of restored furniture.
