The Do It Ourselves project, hosted by Alor — a Melbourne-based furniture studio — reimagines DIY from a designer’s perspective. Each piece has been created by local designers using materials sourced entirely from their local hardware store, often Bunnings. The initiative challenges and inspires the public to get hands-on and craft their own furniture. Designed with accessibility in mind, every project requires only basic hand tools, making them approachable for beginners. Additionally, all designs adhere to a cost cap of $150, ensuring they remain both affordable and achievable for everyone.

Participants

James Walsh
James Walsh is a Melbourne based industrial designer with a passion for material and process experimentation. Through this approach to designing, Walsh has developed a number of pieces that identify new ways of reusing waste materials, while also demonstrating exciting approaches to traditional, often primitive processes in the creation of his sculptural work. For the "Do It Ourselves" project, Walsh led the conceptual development and curation of works under Alor, a Melbourne-based furniture studio, focused on promoting good design and good people.
