Tour and talk

Explore how the design decisions we make today shape the healthcare experiences of tomorrow.

Planet Innovation offers a rare opportunity to visit its innovation and manufacturing centre for an immersive exploration into how designers create world-leading healthcare products.

Building on its 2025 Melbourne Design Week open-house event, this year’s program examines the legacy of human-centred design and how design practices are evolving towards planet-centred approaches in MedTech.

The event will open with a showcase of award-winning, world-first medical products before transitioning to a panel discussion led by a diverse team of experienced and emerging designers.

The panel discussion will unpack the product development journey of real products that are changing the future of healthcare. Case studies will show how early design choices influence patient experiences, clinical workflows and long-term health outcomes.

Discussion topics include:

  • What can we learn from MedTech products that haven’t changed for the past twenty years?
  • How are cutting-edge technologies impacting how we deliver healthcare today?
  • How can we better introduce circular design and sustainability into healthcare?

The discussion will then lead into a guided tour across three floors of Planet Innovation’s design and manufacturing facility. Attendees will gain behind-the-scenes access to multidisciplinary teams developing healthcare technologies and translating innovation into real-world impact.

The event will conclude with a networking session, bringing together designers, founders, engineers and industry professionals. The session encourages engagement, inspires thinking and celebrates the legacy that Australia’s design community is leaving on global healthcare.
