BDD (Brunswick Design District) is a creative precinct supporting businesses, start-ups, designers, artists, makers, musicians, venues and education providers. Over two days, BDD opens normally closed studio doors across the district, celebrating local creativity, craftsmanship and innovation.

The program offers access to the working spaces of Merri-bek’s diverse creative businesses — from design studios and makers to local producers — providing insight into where ideas are developed and produced.

Thirteen studios are participating, featuring a wide range of practices from large-scale sculpture to millinery, illustration to lighting, furniture to fashion and textiles, printmaking to photography, and music to medical technology.

Each studio hosts its own program, with some presenting talks, exhibitions, hands-on workshops and an exclusive dinner.

Participating studios include Mycelium Studios, Made by Morgen, Pavement Print Studio, Pelican Studios (featuring works by Callan Morgan, Edward Linacre and Dusken), Soundworks Music Studio, NAYANA, Hillvale Photo and Gallery, Styling Station Melbourne, The Hen House Rehearsal Studios, Nutromics, Mattt and The Nonsense Maker.

BDD Open Studios: Design Behind Closed Doors takes place on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 May 2026.

Supported through a partnership between RMIT University, Merri-bek City Council and Creative Victoria.
