Encounter design as intimate, sensual, and personal.

Streifen’s Seven Minutes In Heaven at Collingwood House draws upon the universally resonant themes of closeness and anticipation. This exhibition transforms the nostalgic allure of secluded moments into an immersive design experience, deepening the bond between people and the objects that surround them. Audiences are invited to spend seven uninterrupted minutes inside the exhibit. Within this space sits a collection of furniture works designed by Streifen, each reflecting their design philosophy, robust and infused with a gentle sense of frayed romanticism. During these seven minutes, participants will be encouraged to interact with each piece: to stroke, to open, to lay, to pull.

In collaboration with Studio Manifold, who bring their own vision to the space, Seven Minutes In Heaven invites audiences to reimagine their relationship with the designed world. Seven Minutes In Heaven can evoke a range of emotions from desire and excitement to introspection and vulnerability. This is an exhibit where the boundary between the object and the participant blurs, making both feel alive, connected, and emotionally resonant. Through this experience, Streifen challenges participants to reconsider the emotional role of the objects that shape their environments—and, by extension, their lives.

Participants

Streifen
Streifen is a design collective founded by Frances Normoyle and Madeleine Murdoch. With a shared interest in material exploration and sculptural form, Streifen approaches design as an ongoing process of experimentation —where ideas are developed through making. Working closely across design, prototyping, and production, the studio embraces an iterative approach that encourages spontaneity and refinement. This process allows for unexpected outcomes — whether through combining industrial materials with traditional techniques, or balancing structural tension with quiet restraint. Each Streifen piece is conceived with both purpose and poetry in mind. The results are objects that invite interaction, offering simplicity without sacrificing depth. In a fast-paced world, Streifen’s practice values responsiveness, material curiosity, and emotional resonance, championing a design language that is both grounded and open-ended.

Studio Manifold
Studio Manifold is an interior and building design practice based in Melbourne and Sydney. The studio is committed to creating spaces with longevity—integrating past and present design principles in ways that are both unexpected and cohesive.Guided by a utilitarian approach, Studio Manifold prioritises practicality and ease. Its interiors feel relaxed and enduring, without adhering to a specific era or trend.Alongside designing custom furniture and lighting, the studio sources vintage and reclaimed pieces to create layered environments that reflect the individuality of each client.
