Quiet Studio is an escape from the noise and pace of city life. Designed by award-winning architect and artist, Matthew Bird, using Autex Acoustics carbon-neutral acoustic panelling with mindful activations from Sammy Prowse and Universal Practice, Quiet Studio transforms a Collingwood shop-front into a retreat from the sensory overload of daily modern life.
Everyday, we’re exposed to overwhelming stimuli — phone notifications, traffic, overcrowded spaces — often unnoticed but taxing to our senses. In response to the increasing norm of this overstimulation and the sensory science of human wellbeing, we bring you Quiet Studio, an experimental pop up space designed as a calming retreat.
Influenced by attenuating sound waves and the reminiscent patterns replicated in the natural world, Studiobird’s site-specific installation leverages the power of high-performance acoustics, enveloping guests in a world removed from the bustle of the street mere steps away.
A wellness rest stop which invites guests to slow down and unclutter the mind, immerse yourself in Quiet Studio with a guided meditation or breathwork session led by the team from Universal Practice. Meditations are free and open to the public during Quiet Studio opening hours. Breathwork sessions are ticketed at limited capacities, additional details and booking link at left.
Join Matthew Bird, founding director of Studiobird, and Sammy Prowse, founding director of Universal Practice, in conversation on Quiet Studio’s opening Saturday. How can architectural installations help us achieve a sensory balance in a world of overstimulation? Set within the space, this talk explores the transformative power of design and sound on the nervous system. Experience firsthand how thoughtful design nurtures wellbeing and elevates both mind and body.
A true collaboration between Autex Acoustics, Studiobird, and Universal Practice, Quiet Studio is at once a sculptural installation, sensory experience, and mindfulness destination. Exemplifying the intersection of design, health and wellness, Quiet Studio investigates the power and influence of good design on individual health and wellbeing.
