Now in its second year, these workroom talks focus on the intimacy, trust and bond between costume designer, costumier and performer — relationships that are critical to creating an impactful costume on stage. Held over consecutive nights, the talks feature both professional and student collaborative teams who come together to reflect on the creation of costume and character as a ménage à trois.
Experience design as a force for connection and storytelling in this engaging series. Hosted by the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music and the Melbourne School of Design at the University of Melbourne, this series celebrates creative innovation in design and its impact on place and community.

Amanda Hitten
Amanda Hitten is a highly accomplished costumier with over twenty-five years of industry experience. A former resident artist at The Substation, Newport, her costume work has been widely published in magazines and featured in stage productions across Australia and internationally.She has crafted costumes for some of the country’s most prestigious performing arts companies, including The Australian Ballet, Malthouse Theatre, Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir, Melbourne Theatre Company, Opera Australia and Victorian Opera. Her work also extends to film and television, with a notable focus on live performance, where her artistry brings characters to life with impeccable detail and craftsmanship.
