Exhibition

Pavement Print Studio is a mobile screen printing facility created on a bicycle trailer, bringing collaborative printmaking directly into public space. The studio will set up at MPavilion on RMIT’s Brunswick Campus for four days of workshops, before moving to Balam Balam Place for an exhibition running through to the end of the festival. Both venues are part of the Brunswick Design District.

WORKSHOP AND EXHIBITION OVERVIEW
Each Workshop session runs for 2.5 hours and takes 8 participants through the full creative journey: from conversation and design, through stencil cutting, to printing and overprinting. Everyone leaves with their own printed work to take home, while also contributing to something larger: as prints accumulate across the four days, they become part of a collective artwork that no single person could have made alone.

Each participant becomes a named collaborator and co-author of the final work, which is installed at Balam Balam Place as a large-scale exhibition piece. An opening event brings collaborators back together to see what they have collectively created.

The exhibition kicks off with an opening night on Wednesday 20 May, and runs until Sunday 25 May (open daily 11am – 4pm).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

During the workshops, participants work alongside Pavement Print Studio’s printers to create screen prints using water-based Permaset Aqua inks, with stencils laser cut from reclaimed paper. Working from simple visual prompts and modular grid templates, individual designs layer through overprinting with other participants’ work — producing unexpected compositions.

Pavement Print Studio is operated by students, alumni and staff from the RMIT Associate Degree and Diploma of Graphic Design.

Pavement Print Studio
Pavement Print Studio is a mobile screen printing facility housed on a bicycle trailer, bringing collaborative printmaking into public space. Established in 2025 at RMIT's Brunswick Campus, the studio is operated by students, alumni and staff from the Associate Degree and Diploma of Graphic Design. The studio's practice centres on participatory making – asking people to respond to simple prompts and layering their work through overprinting to create collective outcomes that none could have made alone. Pavement Print Studio has worked with community and design audiences across Melbourne/Naarm, producing large-scale collaborative installations from hundreds of individual contributions.
