Returning to Guine- Bissau to conduct a research project on the artisanal culture of her hometown, Thayra Correia gives voice to the leading figures in “History in the Future”, a documentary that reveals how being an artisan in a country like Guinea-Bissau transcends mere craftsmanship and embodies an act of survival along with a belief in continuity fueled by hope.
In conversation with five artisans with varied practices, Thayra revels in their similar backgrounds, dreams, responsibilities, and an awareness of the power of design and conscious production.

One of the most relevant elements in Guinean culture, Panu di Pinti (Comb Cloth), is a handmade cloth that tells stories through the imagery, text and colour that is woven into it. It is traditionally used in wedding ceremonies, funerals and tributes. The Panu di Pinti is an element of communication that changes according to the ceremony for which it is associated with. Bissilon (Kaya Senegalesis) is a typical wood from the country and other similar areas known for its resistance and changing beauty over time whereby the timber goes from pink – when cut – to dark brown to black.
