CERES Fair Wood
31-33 Raglan Street, Preston VIC, Australia
Be immersed in the natural scents of a timber warehouse for a conversation about designing with sustainability and ethics at the core.
Hosted by CERES Fair Wood at their Preston vicinity, Rowan Reid’s live episode of podcast ‘Heartwood’ will provide an insight into agroforestry as a sustainable source of timber. Rowan and guest, Paul Haar (architect and co-founder of CERES Fair Wood) will discuss the future outlook of sourcing timber materials sustainably in a climate of nameless, faceless sticks of timber. They will examine where design intersects with environmental protection, and what personal value can be embedded into a building or furniture piece when the material carries a local story.
Refreshments will be provided throughout and after the live podcast, and guests will be able to browse the warehouse with Fair Wood staff on site to provide information. This is a free event and street parking in the area is free, as well as Fair Wood’s limited parking spaces.

Paul Haar
Throughout his career of over 40 years, Paul Haar has been immersed in architectural practice and related pursuits informed by deep green principles and, where possible, operating inside small local economic and social systems. Paul has a deep understanding of the impact that timber specification has on the health of our forests. A lifelong collaboration with CERES (Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies) prompted his instigation and ongoing support of CERES Fair Wood, a now thriving not-for-profit timber retail enterprise that promotes and celebrates the use of sustainable wood products.
