Annette Wagner

The Wunder Gym was conceived by founder Annette Wagner, a creative director who facilitates innovative cultures through the arts and creativity, and a multi-disciplined conceptual artist currently completing Honours and commencing a PHD in 2022 at Deakin University. With previous experience participating in the NGV Design Week program, she coordinated and hosted the 2018 panel event ‘Socially Aware by Design: Building successful values-led small businesses’, for and as a Creative Women’s Circle board member. Since then, Wagner has hosted events for Melbourne Knowledge Week (2018) and Melbourne Fringe Festival (2021), and presented as part of programs for Craft Victoria (2019, 2021). “I’m incredibly proud of the Wunder Gym, which I liken to a ‘cabinet of curiosity’, or ‘a place to build a library of creative experiments to coach the imagination’. Since launching in July 2019, the program has been proven to maintain positive outcomes, remaining operational throughout the pandemic, and championing early career, emerging and established artists, creative leaders, and even scientists, as participants and mentors. Participants become members through the public program or the programs delivered in collaboration with local governments. Wyndham City has actively engaged the Wunder Gym arts program and benefited from building creative confidence in the Wyndham arts community who work on inspiring projects with group exhibiting outcomes. Throughout the program, participants engage, reinforce and build strong connections with their arts community peers and establish diverse networks to support their creative growth. The creative confidence is evident in Wunder Gym participants. I’ve witnessed participants gaining commissions for the Metro Tunnel Creative Program, being featured by MuMA and Frankie publications social media, selling their artworks and entering and winning the Wyndham Arts Prize.”
