The buildingstories project is the first in a series of interactive digital works that capture Melbourne’s rapidly disappearing vernacular architecture and interiors. The project engages with digital storytelling techniques and new technologies to create an archive that records the physical architectural spaces and the associated human and non-human lives and stories that were created and supported by the specific space.

The work values documenting disappearing vernacular urban interiors to reveal how our cultures, memories, stories, and desires are world-building. The digital environment encourages deeper critical awareness of human and non-human entanglements within its audience to foster new ways of feeling and thinking about histories, cultures and being in a more-than-human world.

Participants

Andy Miller

Andy is a practice-based design researcher and academic in the School of Architecture and Urban Design at RMIT. His feel-think practice explores ways of responding to change through ideas of ecological entanglements, animism, and a creative practice mash-up of technologies and story-telling to help foster alternative ways of making, living, and being in a more-than-human world.

Olivia Hamilton

Olivia Hamilton’s interest is in how engagement with creative projects can foster meaningful collaborations, inclusivity, and care-taking attitudes. Olivia is a senior lecturer at RMIT School of Architecture and Urban Design and conducts her research through spatial practice, design pedagogy, and writing and has published and exhibited in Australia and internationally since finishing her Ph.D. on spaces of creative commoning in 2018.
